This presentation explains what is happening during anaphylaxis and how it should be treated by patients and physicians. Symptoms are described and indications for epinephrine are explained. The use of adjunctive medications such as antihistamines and steroids is discussed. Tips and challenges in using epinephrine auto-injectors are presented, with advice for safe use and navigating choices. Participants will leave feeling more confident about when and how to treat their or their child’s allergic reactions.

This session is approved for one hour of continuing education credits from the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.
